I've always been too scared to go and eat on my own, mainly because I'm worried about people feeling sorry for me! But when James left Toulouse and my dad wasn't arriving til the next day, I had a choice between getting a baguette and eating that alone, or braving a solo restaurant trip, and the answer was obvious - I only had limited time in Toulouse and HAD to cram in all my favourite places!!
It actually wasn't too bad either! After the initial "une personne s'il vous plait" which I found a bit awkward, I just didn't mind any more. There were quite a few other people eating on their own, too, which made me feel less conspicuous.
Personalised hand wipes were a new touch!! |
I went for marinières as it is just amazing here - so garlicky and oniony (not one for a date I suppose but that's the perk of eating alone!!)
They come with a large portion of delicious, soft and salty "frites"
It's really cool because the dishes are the shape of mussels!
They give you a nice big bucket for your shells which of course I filled in no time
And plenty of bread to dip in the leftover sauce - one of the best bits of the meal for sure!
One final interesting fact (hopefully not just interesting to me..); the restaurant name is a play on the French phrase "Quand les Poules auront des Dents" ("When Chickens have Teeth") which is the French equivalent of our phrase, "when pigs fly"!
