The Riverbank Café, Ivybridge (revisited!)

Posted on 08:02 by suresh kumar
I went to visit my grandparents last weekend and was lucky enough to be taken for lunch at their local French owned café, the Riverbank (or Fabrice's, as we call it). The food there is always absolutely delicious - to see my previous review, click here.

The specials board is always my go to here, as it has such a great selection of really amazing meals - it makes deciding really difficult, and that's not even including the every day menu! In the end I chose the fish stew

It was packed with salmon fillet, cod, mussels, scallops, new potatoes, carrots and courgettes, and it was probably one of the nicest fish dishes I have ever tasted. It was a really warming dish for a cold winter day, but also managed to be light and fresh at the same time, so you didn't feel stodgey and lazy afterwards!

I also had a side of cheesy chips...couldn't keep it completely light (and there's still pudding to go..)

Lovely crispy fat chips with a generous mature cheddar topping - comfort food at its best.

My granny went for the cod, salmon and serrano ham fishcake with wilted spinach, and an almond, roasted pepper and tomato sauce

I thought the sauce made the dish look really beautiful - and despite the seemingly small portion size, my granny said it was really filling. I tried a bit and thought it was lovely - the saltiness of the ham balanced really well with the fish and the sauce complemented it perfectly.

My grandad has his usual - the fish and chips

It must be good because he keeps getting it again!!

For pudding I had one of my favourite French treats..

...a crepe oozing with nutella and topped with banana - so I got one of my five a day and everything!! They're proper thin french crepes - and along with the pictures, I probably don't need to say more than that!

My grandad chose the carrot cake from an amazing selection in the cabinet at the front of the restaurant (the French chocolate torte was tempting me)

He certainly enjoyed it; probably the clotted cream was a big factor in that too! Apparently he had sent my granny out the day before to buy a big pot of it!

I absolutely love eating here and I already can't wait til the next time I go - I wonder what delicious fish dishes will be on the menu then!
